.: Science Fiction :.

Here's a list of science fiction books. Some books are a blend of sci-fi and fantasy or futuristic. Notice, this list contains children's, young adult, and adult books.

By Author:

Adlington, L. J. - Set into a universe that is very similar to our own, Tony V. finds a journal written by Pelly, a girl whose life seems perfect. As the diary goes on, the events that happen are eerily similar to the Holocaust in World War II. The book gets better as it goes along.
- The Diary of Pelly D ***

Allende, Isabel - Did you know? Isabel Allende was one of the women who carried the Olympic flag in Torino, Italy. These books are about Alex and Nadia, two teens who meet for the first time in City of the Beasts. The trilogy is about their adventures while traveling around the world with Alex's energetic grandmother. The books are a blend of science fiction and fantasy set on our modern world. Highly recommended.
The Alexander Cold trilogy:
- City of the Beasts ****
- Kingdom of the Golden Dragon *****
- Forest of the Pygmies ****

Bell, Hilari - Amazing author. Fall of a Kingdom used to be called Flame. The trilogy takes place in Farsala, comparable to Persia. The land-hungry Hrum wage war against Farsala and Jiaan, Soraya, and Kavi must set aside their differences and work together to save their country from the slavery and cruelty the invaders bring with them. Very highly recommended.
- A Matter of Profit ****

Browne, N. M. - Living in a world with strict regulations, two teens discover a diabolical plot their dictator would kill for to keep secret. I thought the dream segments were boring but other than that, the story was good. Recommended.
- Basilisk ****

Cabot, Meg - In Avalon High, Ellie moves to a new school where some people may be reincarnations of King Arthur's court.
- Avalon High ****

Colfer, Eoin - These books are good sci-fi/fantasy. The Artemis Fowl series deals with a teenage criminal mastermind and fairies with some pretty awesome technology... it's cooler than I make it sound :) I'm surprised that the books didn't stop at the third one, but I'm glad they continued. Recommended.
The Artemis Fowl series:
- Artemis Fowl ***
- Artemis Fowl: the Arctic Incident ***
- Artemis Fowl: the Eternity Code ****
- Artemis Fowl: the Opal Deception ***
- Artemis Fowl: the Lost Colony ****

- The Supernaturalists ****
- The Wish List **

De la Cruz, Melissa - I wonder if there will be a sequel to Blue Bloods.
- Blue Bloods ****

Dunkle, Clare B. - In Part One of The Hollow Kingdom, two sisters move to live on Hollow Hill, the family estate they have inherited. When they discover the Goblin King wants Kate for a bride, no one will believe them. Then Emily goes missing and Kate turns to the Goblin King for help and strikes a bargain with him. The rest of the story is about what happened after the bargain... which is worth reading to find out.
the Hollow Kingdom trilogy:
- The Hollow Kingdom ****
- Close Kin ***
- In the Coils of the Snake ***

Farmer, Nancy - These are great books. These two books are a great example of futuristic fiction and last one has Norse mythology. The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm takes place in Africa. Three children of a powerful man are kidnapped and African legends come to life... House of the Scorpion follows the life of a clone of an extremely rich and powerful opium dealer. It seems that there are plots within plots... Very highly recommended.
- House of the Scorpion *****
- The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm *****

Klause, Annette Curtis - I thought this was an interesting look at werewolves. When Vivian, a young werewolf, falls in love with a human, her pack is confused. Why whould she want a human when she could have her pick of their own kind? Things get complicated when mysterious attacks on humans have been made within the town and members of the pack battle for the position of leader. When Vivian makes a mistake, the whole pack may be revealed. It's been made into a movie but it's different than the book.
- Blood and Chocolate ****

Lee, Tanith - These books are in a kinda modern-ish, magical-ish, different universe. They are the journals of Claidi, a maid in the House, possibly royalty. Wolf Tower: Claidi escapes from the House and travels with a handsome stranger only to find that she must escape yet again... Wolf Star & Wolf Queen: On the day of her wedding, Claidi is kidnapped and brought to a fortress, when she finally goes, she only to finds more mysteries. Wolf Wing: Just who was Ustareth? What did she want? Claidi and Argul search for answers. Highly recommended.
The Claidi Journals:
- Wolf Tower ***
- Wolf Star ****
- Wolf Queen ***
- Wolf Wing ****

L'Engle, Madeleine - I read these a long time ago. I remember them being half fantasy, half science fiction. I am also undecided about whether they are children's or young adult. They center around Meg, her family, friends, and a parallel universe.
Time Fantasy series:
- A Wrinkle in Time ****
- A Wind in the Door ***
- A Swiftly Tilting Planet ***
- Many Waters ****

Lockwood, Cara - Miranda isn't a bad girl. I mean, all she did was crash her dad's car and max out Carmen's credit card. How is that bad enough to get her sent to Bard Academy, a boarding school for juvenile delinquents? Well it's too late. Now, Miranda's trapped at this creepy reform school located on some remote island and her dorm may or may not be haunted by some girl who died fifteen years ago. How much does this suck?
Bard Academy novels:
- Wuthering High ***

Lowry, Lois - The Giver, Gathering Blue, and Messenger take place in the same universe though the characters are different. They eventually meet up. Even if it's sad.
- Number the Stars ****
- The Giver ****
- Gathering Blue ***
- Messenger ***

Oppel, Kenneth - I read these a while ago but I liked them. Shade is a young bat who gets separated from his colony during migration. He and Marina must find the colony before Goth, a blood-thirsty vampire bat, finds them first. The saga continues in Sunwing when humans capture the bats and hold them captive. Once they escape, their problems seem worse than ever... In Firewing, the next generation of bats faces the Underworld, the place where dead bats go. When Griffin goes in search of Luna, Shade must find them both before they also lose their lives. Recommended.
Silverwing saga:
- Silverwing ****
- Sunwing ****
- Firewing ***

Patterson, James - Skip the first two. They're adult books and are not neccesary to enjoy the Maximum Ride series. Maximum Ride and her flockmates escape from the School, the genetic research lab that created them. They are 98% human and 2% avian so they have wings and are able to fly. Well, the School just found and abducted the youngest member of the group. With a rescue in mind and a plan to escape to a place where they can be safe, the six outwit their hunters to survive just a bit longer. In the second book, after a stay with an FBI agent and a relatively normal life, Max has to face her destiny... or die before she has a chance. Highly recommended.
- When the Wind Blows ***
- The Lake House ***

Maximum Ride:
- The Angel Experiment ****
- School's Out - Forever ****

Pullman, Philip - Wonderful. The first book takes place in parallel universe and the others travel between worlds. Following the disappearance Lyra's friends, she joins an expedition to the north. With the help of her daemon and her friends, she travels in hope of discovering and stopping the evil that has already been set into motion. The next two books follow Lyra and Will, a boy whose father has been missing for years. With the discovery of a special knife, the two, with their daemons, find themselves drawn into something much larger than they are. Very highly recommended.
His Dark Materials trilogy:
- The Golden Compass *****
- The Subtle knife *****
- The Amber Spyglass *****

Russon, Penni - Undine is a girl and it seems that a magical power which had been dormant is now awakened. In the second book, we find out who Max is.
- Undine **
- Breathe ***

Werlin, Nancy - His parents are hiding something... if only he could figure out what. As Eli starts working for a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, he gets the feeling that something is wrong. Something is wrong... with his past.
- Double Helix ***

Westerfeld, Scott - These were really good. In a world where beauty is achieved at age 16, Tally can't wait for her operation. There are three types of people in the world, Uglies, who have not had the operation; Pretties, who have; and Specials, the law enforcement. When her friend Shay runs away before her operation, Tally is given a choice: betray Shay and become pretty or stay ugly forever... Very highly recommended.
Uglies trilogy:
- Uglies *****
- Pretties *****
- Specials *****
